Located between Sheridan and Buffalo, Fort Phil Kearny State Historic Site is the site of a former fort that had a short two-year existence in the 1800s. Named after a popular Union General, this fort was the focal point of a violent war between the U.S. Army and the Sioux, Cheyenne and Arapaho Indians. Although the fort was destroyed, it has been reconstructed and today the site boasts a museum, a picnic area, a reconstructed stockade, a period cabin, interpretive trails and more. Address: 528 Wagon Box Road Story WY USA 82832
